Galaxy S2 vs HTC Sensation Comparison

The battle of the powerful smartphones once again heats up as the two smartphone giants, Samsung and HTC gears up to launch their new highly empowered smart phones. Samsung Galaxy SII is expected to be launched in the beginning of May and HTC Sensation sometime in May or June. This post compares both these phones over the major parameters.

Display:

This is the era of smart phones with giant displays; both the smart phones have 4.3 inch screens. With size the quality of the display matters a lot and Galaxy SII seems to have the upper hand with a Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen. HTC sensation uses the new S-LCD display which has shown promising results as well. The screen resolution of Sensation is 540×960 pixels, whereas that of Galaxy SII is 480×800 pixels. HTC uses the HTC sense 3.0 UI for sensation and SII has the Touch Wiz 4.0. It’ll be difficult to give the verdict on which phones comes on top on the display front. In the end it is higher resolution Vs the more renowned Super AMOLED.

Processor And OS:

Both the smart phones are Android based having the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The processing power of both the smart phones is same with dual core 1.2 GHz processor. Galaxy SII has 1GB of RAM while Sensation has 768MB. What is worth mentioning here is the fact that Galaxy SII ARM Cortex-A9 processor runs on1650 mAh battery and the competitor’s Qualcomm MSM 8260 Snapdragon processor consumes battery at 1520 mAh. The overall battery time will still depend on the display, UI and the OS combined. HTC claims that sensation will provide upto 6.5hrs of talk time, there are no figures yet from Samsung though.

Internal Storage:

Galaxy SII is available in 16GB and 32GB versions whereas Sensation only offers 1GB of internal memory. The memory is extendable in both the phones with a SD card supported up 32GB.

Camera:

Both phones have 8MP of camera capable of recording 1080p HD video. Sensation has a dual LED support while SII has a single LED flash. SII has a 2MP front camera compared to 1.3MP. Sensation also support stereo sound recording.

Connectivity:

Galaxy SII again seems to have s slight edge over Sensation with HSPDA 21Mbps, Sensation transfer data over the networks only at 14.4Mbps. SII also has the USB on the go feature. Other connectivity features are Bluetooth 3.0, micro USB and WIFI Hotspot.

In a rather evenly matched fight of Processors and Display, Galaxy SII is ahead with better Storage features and Connectivity Options. It is also much lighter and thinner. With all that said, pricing will be the deciding factor when choosing between the two. Galaxy SII is expected to be priced at Rs.32,000 and there is no update on the pricing of HTC Sensation.
