Sony Ericsson recently launched its first Android mobile in Sony Walkman series mobile phones. They released Android based Sony Ericsson W8 in April; As per the price SE W8 has a tough competition with 2 most successful android smartphones in India, HTC Wildfire and LG Optimus P500. Here we have compared Sony Ericsson W8 with HTC Wildfire.
Design and Size:
Both phones have large touch screens that dominate the design; Wildfire is more stylishly build with nicely curved edges. W8 is quiet a thick bar having 15mm of thickness and it weighs 104g. Wildfire on the other hand is quiet slim having only 12mm of thickness but it weighs 118g. The stylish and attractive looks and slim design of Wildfire S gives it the upper hand on this front.
Display
Both smart phones feature TFT capacitive touch screen with 16M color support. Wildfire S has gorilla glass display while W8 has a scratch resistant surface. Wildfire has a larger 3.2 inch screen compared to 3.0 inch screen size of W8. The gorilla glass display and slightly larger screen size of Wildfire again gives it a slight advantage.
Processor and OS:
Sony Ericsson W8 features a 600 MHz ARM 11processor powered by Adreno 200GPU whereas HTC Wildfire has 528 MHz ARM 11processor. Both phones have the Android 2.1(Éclair) OS. In Wildfire it can be upgraded to Android 2.2(Froyo). Not much to choose between the two on this front.
Camera:
W8 features a 3.15MP camera with resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. It is able to record VGA video at 30fps and supports geo tagging. Wildfire again has the lead with a 5MP camera, auto focus and LED flash, the maximum resolution of video it can record is 352×288 pixels, it also supports geo tagging feature.
Storage Capacity:
HTC Wildfire has 314MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM. W8 has 128MB of internal storage and 168MB of RAM. W8 supports memory extension up to 16GB and Wildfire up to 32GB via SD memory card.
Conclusion:

Both these phones are almost in the same price range of Rs.10,000. However, HTC Wildfire has managed to come out on top on all the features that we have compared and with not a lot of difference in price Wildfire will surely be the priority of Android fans.
